Ellen Welch MS, RD, LD, CEDS-C
Ellen is a Registered Dietitian Nutritionist, Certified Eating Disorder Specialist, and Certified Intuitive Eating Counselor who is passionate about helping individuals develop a more peaceful and trusting relationship with food and their bodies. She works with adolescents and adults of all genders and across eating disorder diagnoses and is licensed to provide nutrition care in both Indiana and Illinois.
Ellen has a special interest in working with college-aged individuals, chronic dieting and disordered eating, and families navigating eating and nutrition concerns with their children. She recognizes that transitions into college and young adulthood can bring unique challenges related to food, independence, changing routines, body image, social pressures, and eating disorder recovery. Ellen works alongside clients to develop the confidence and flexibility needed to nourish themselves while navigating these changes.
Parent education and support are particularly important parts of Ellen’s work. She understands how overwhelming it can feel when a child is struggling with an eating disorder, disordered eating, picky eating, or other nutrition concerns. Ellen helps parents better understand what may be happening with their child while providing practical guidance for supporting nutrition and reducing stress around food. Her goal is to help parents feel more confident in feeding and supporting their families while helping children develop greater trust around food and confidence in their own eating.
Ellen also enjoys working with children experiencing picky eating. She recognizes that feeding challenges can have many contributing factors and works collaboratively with children and their caregivers to expand confidence and flexibility around food without creating unnecessary pressure or turning mealtimes into a battleground.
Ellen’s approach to nutrition counseling is grounded in Intuitive Eating, weight-inclusive care, and freedom from diet culture. She recognizes that eating patterns and nutrition needs are highly individualized and helps clients move away from external food rules and harmful messages about health and body size. Rather than pursuing a rigid definition of “healthy eating,” Ellen helps clients discover what supports their individual health, recovery, values, and relationship with food.
Outside of eating disorder treatment, Ellen has an interest in sports nutrition for high school athletes. She enjoys helping young athletes and their families understand the importance of adequate nourishment to support growth, development, physical and emotional well-being, and participation in the sports they love.
Ellen also provides nutrition support for individuals using or considering GLP-1 medications, with particular attention to maintaining adequate nourishment and supporting a healthy relationship with food. She recognizes that conversations about weight and nutrition surrounding these medications can be especially complicated for individuals with a history of dieting, disordered eating, or body image concerns and approaches these conversations with care and without judgment.
As a Certified Eating Disorder Specialist and Certified Intuitive Eating Counselor, Ellen brings advanced training and extensive experience to her work while recognizing that each client's experience with food and recovery is unique. Above all, she strives to provide nutrition counseling that is compassionate, collaborative, practical, and grounded in helping clients and families build greater confidence and trust around food.
Outside of work, Ellen enjoys spending time with her husband and kids. She is also an avid Purdue Boilermakers fan and attends as many sporting events as she can!
